Meeting our friends again.

Hi from Giusy and Alessia, Chieri, Torino, Italy. We are enjoying our last lessons at school, since the school year is going to the end. We spent a week in Portugal in October and we have a wonderful memory of this experience. What a great time we had with our Portuguese, Polish, Romanian, German friends! Now we feel much more European than we did!
While we were in Portugal we met many students from the other European schools, and now they are our friends. This experience has changed us in a positive way, expanding our horizons since we have visited new cities and have had contacts with fantastic people, new cultures and customs.
Then we met again in Italy where we well came our friends as guests you have been with happiness. It was wonderful meeting our friends again, but was rather difficult to leave when they went home!
We hope that the summer won’t be so long, ‘cause we can’t wait to start again the Comenius Project and meet our friends from Poland, German, Romania, Portugal again.

Hi!!!! We're Giulia, Razvan and Beatrice from Liceo Monti, Chieri(ITALY). While we were watching the photos of Berlin and Almada, we thought about the beautiful days spent with the Comenius' friends!!! Thank to this experience we met great persons, saw fantastic cities and improved our English skills and last, but not least, we felt great European girls and boys!

In these days we are studying so much, because here in Ital school will finish in a month !! Anyway.. We also enjoy ourselves,going to the cinema, to the disco, and to the shopping centres with our friends!

We said good bye to all partners and a special "Gencooyea" (Dziekuge) to our hosts.

It is the final mobility of this project (after Berlin, Costanta, Lisboa, Chieri) and we mill already our friends and partners.

Torun - visit on foot.

Torun is one of the most interesting cities of Poland, founded on the right bank of the river Vistula by the Teutonic Hnights and is easily covered on foot. That´s what we did, with a local guide.

We saw numerous buildings from Renaissance, Ghotic and Baroque style.

We saw the Museum of Nicolaj Kopernic (Nicolau Copérnico) and our meeting point was, always, near the statue of Kopernic.

During the visit we had to buy food for dinner and breakfast. We spend the night in a hostal in Torun and return to Polkowice late on tuesday.

Time for the last shopping in the supermarket and to say goodbye to all partners and hosts.

Sunday .... day to spend with families and partners.

The teachers went to see some palaces and to the shopping in Lubin.... like the students.

Tomorrow we will go in a school trip to Torun, 400 km to the north of the country.

The medieval old town of Torun is the birthplace of Nicolau Copernico and in 1997 was listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We will sleep there one night.

I'm enjoying very much this trip, the country is different, people are really nice, the house where I am is beautiful, my hosts are fantastic... so I'm loving to be here! It's so good to have another kind of expirience! You can practise your english, you can know many people all over the Europe, know different cultures... that's really interesting and I'm enjoying to do all these things! I think I will miss all I did in Poland (Polkowice, Wrocław, Złoty Stok, Lubin...) but specially, in Polkowice, where I knew everyone.

Looking for the "sex"

Today we went to Wroclaw, a beatiful city with a lot of bridges, called the Venice of Poland.

The sighseeing of Wroclaw was after a lesson about Antropology in Wroclaw University. We learn how to distinguish the sex (male or female) of some skulls. Also we learn a lot about the evolution of human species at the Museum of Man.

And then we walk a lot, among friends, with a a fantastic sun.

Tomorrow is free time for everybody, with our polish hosts.

A big adventure: looking for Gold

Today we went to an ancient gold mine in Zloty Stok. We look for gold, we visited anciens galleries, we took a trip in a boat inside the mine and also a trip in a very noisy train.

I´m going to Poland

Hi, I am Joana, I am 17 y.o. (I´ll be 18 soon, on 14th April).
I don´t really know what to say, but i know that i am supposed to describe myself, so i have to do it..
This is going to be the first time i´ll visit an other country, by Comenius Project. I received a German girl in my home and i think this program is so nice to meet new people and learn other things. I hope to have a great time there with you and your family.
I am a kind person, but quite shy. I need time to know people but i think that won´t be a problem. I really love kids and animals, so if you have a big family i´ll be very happy
I like so much to play sports, i play volleyball, at school with my friends and it´s quite funny i like it a lot! I like traveling, shopping, singing (especially karaoke) and many other things..
I don´t remember anything more to say.

Yesterday we went to Pino Torinese Planetarium to see star show and the observatory. You can have a look at http://www.planetarioditorino.it/

Today we went to Torino and with teacher Mario Gribaudo
we had sightseeing on foot. We saw Palazzo Cisterna and Palazzo Reale.

We are really tired but we saw fantastic things.

Of course, all days we are going to school at 8h00 in the morning to classes (today chemistry class).

Milano e Chieri - the begining

We started early in the morning on Sunday. Travel a lot by plane to Milan and walked for 4 hours with some bags to see the Duomo, Vittorio Emanuele Galleries and the Scala. And it was worth it.

Then we took a fantastic train to Torino, near Cheiri, our final destination.

On Monday we went to Liceo A. Monti for some lessons, like music lesson, and for lunch. Then we had a guided tour around the cold but beautiful Chieri. We also visited the Textile Museum.

We are enjoying but our feet are complaining.

Portuguese Carnival

Hello friends!
We are writing to tell you about the Portuguese Carnival traditions.
Here in Almada, we wear masks and we do a Carnival Parade on Sunday and on Tuesday. This parade is organized by the local schools with the cooperation of the Town Hall.
In Portugal, we call "Domingo Gordo", which means "Fat Sunday" and "Entrudo" that is on Tuesday. On Wednesday, is "Quarta-feira de Cinzas" that's when we bury Carnival.
In other Portuguese villages and towns, there are different and very original traditions.

During these festivities, we play tricks and we have a lot of fun.

Program of the week in Italy

WELCOME TO CHIERI

This is the program of what we are going to do in Italy during the Comenius week:
School starts at 8 o’clock in the morning from Monday to Friday.

On Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st we are going to receive you and to spend the weekend in families.

On Monday 22nd we are going to spend the morning at school, visiting the building and doing music activities. In the afternoon we are going to have a tour of Chieri.

On Tuesday 23rd we are going to do some activities in science and physic labs.
After lunch we are going to visit the Planetarium and the Observatory near Chieri.

On Wednesday 24th we will do other activities in the school in the early morning.
Then guests are going to visit Turin on foots., till the evening.

On Thursday 25th we are going to have a fantastic travel on the Alps, so you should bring some boots and a good jacket because there will be a walk in the snow.

On Friday 26th guests are expected to watch a movie about pollution. Then every country will show its work about the future.
After lunch we are going to visit the historical laboratory of the school. Then there will be a dancing show prepared by some Italian guys and a following music show.
Headmasters and teachers are meeting for a Piedmontese traditional dinner.

Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th guests are going to stay with the families for free activities, until the time of their departure.

Dear Comenius friends ! I'm writing to let you know what's the weather in Poland like lately. There are tons of snow everywhere ! The temperatures are really low, sometimes at night it's -25 degrees ! Personally, I can't wait for the spring to come.

I don't know what to start with ... You probably know how glad and amazed I am after the stay in Portugal, at last I haven't hidden my emotions ! It was one of the best experiences in my whole life. I feel lucky for being a member of the Comenius project and having an opportunity to meet you. It was the perfect mix - beautiful country and beautiful people ! A week in Almada changed my opinion about Portugal - from very good to possibly best. I've seen many breathtaking places and I enjoyed trying new things. I was hosted by a great, loving family and surrounded by open-minded and friendly students. You made my stay unforgettable. It is impossible to express my feelings about the trip with words. Everything I could write here is not enough ! Thank you very much. I'm counting day to our meeting in Poland - I can't wait !

We all miss you very much ! It was such a terrible thing to go back to Poland :( We really got used to the weather in Portugal, and here it's freezing ! One day we visited the beach and some of us (me, Weronika, for example !) swam in the ocean, and on the next day we wore coats and warm jackets - what a difference ! We had a lot of fun during our three-hour flight, we wanted to entertain ourselves trying to forget about all the goodbyes ... We are looking forward to seeing you here in Poland and we will definately try to host you as well as possible.

Our favourite place in Obidos

The place in Obidos that we especially loved was situated a couple of minutes from our bus stop. It wasn't a big deal to find it, and I suppose that many other students also would like to present the same location. It is a perfect place to rest at after a long walk round the town. There was some ivy climbing up the columns and comfortable, cool seats in the shadow.

It was adorable. We would love to have such a beautiful place in Polkowice !

Azulejos and Organic soap

Azulejos and Organic soap on Thursday October 15th, 2009 at Anselmo De Andrade, Almada, Pt.
This morning at 9.15 a.m. we met our friends, students from Poland, Germany, Rumenia and Portugal at the “Casa Rural” and we decided to split in groups to do some activities.
The first time we and the Polish made tiles (called “azulejos” in Portuguese). It was very funny because we had to decorate tiles with some flowers or people pictures. Not everybody is good drawing so we did modern art.
At 11.30 a.m. we changed the work and we did the organic soap. It was very amusing because we had to shake sodium hydroxide with water. Then we added the oil and we mixed for 20 minutes. After that we poured 50 ml of ethyl alcohol and essential oil. In the end we put it in a container and we decorated it with flowers, we took them in the garden.
Thank you for the beautiful experience.

We really enjoyed the trip on Wednesday. Our favourite place in Óbidos was outside the townwall. It was such a peaceful place with a great view over the beautiful countryside. We got the feeling of freedom while we were standing at the fence. There was a little pond with a tiny waterfall.

This is Germany calling!

Here we are, it takes us always a little bit longer to join the group ups, the blog:
We arrived on Monday and started on Tuesday with the presentations.
The topics of our presentations were a little film about our school, a short presentation of our home town Berlin. We tried to show the multicultural life in Berlin by talking about the different embassies and the several folk festivals. We also said some words about the results of the town partnerships with Asian, African and South American cities. The finally presentation was a listing of the most important milestones of the German history since the Federal Republic of Germany celebrated its birthday: we turned 60!

TRIP IN ALMADA

On Tuesday, in the afternoon, we went for a trip in Almada: from Cristo Rei (an enormous monument built after the 2nd World War) we went down to the river's bank. During the journey the local guide from the Town Hall told us a lot of interesting things about the rocks, fossils and geological eras in the territory. We enjoyed this experience, even if it was a very hot day!

Pillory by the Romanian Group

Yesterday we had the opportunity to visit Obidos, which appeared as a medieval fortress to us.
We can see why Obidos is a preferred tourist destination. Not only the well-preserved medieval look of its streets, squares, walls and its massive castle, but also its location which allows a 360 degree view of the surroundings, can be strong arguments for the people who want to be a part of an episode of history.
We have always been interested in architecture, so, from the moment we have arrived here we were fascinated by the colourful and also the simplicity of the homes here in Obidos. They are a lot alike, they form a whole, and still they have their own unique characteristics. Obidos has approximately the same structure as a town, both having gothic, renaissance and baroque influences.
By preserving their history, and in the same time living in this modern world, the people of Obidos can teach the world a valuable lesson: that we should never forget where we come from and that being ourselves also means carrying a little bit of history inside each of us.
In this trip we found an impressive monument that is called Pillory. We were interested in this and we found that it was built in granit in the end of 15th century. It represented power, as well as a symbol of municipal independence. It was also used to punish the criminals and thieves. On one side, it has a shield with the royal coat of arms and on the other side, a fishing net that Queen Leonon of Lecastre gave to the town in memory of the loss of her son, the Royal prince Alfonso, representing the fishing net to which the fisherman brought the body of her only son who died in a hunting accident.
This is what we think about Pillory:
Diana: "From the first time I saw it I thought that it´s a fountaine, but when we searched in a book at a shop, we saw that it´s a symbol of municipal authority and it reminded me of Vlad Tepes (Dracula) who haunted and killed everyone that was or he tought it was guilty"
Ruxandra and Amalia: If you are interested in history and you like mysterious things, Pillory is a great place for you.
Alina: When I first saw the monument I didn´t find it very interesting, but when I heard its story it impressed me a lot.

The second day of our stay in Portugal

After another hot day our group is tired, but we are also really happy about what we experienced today. We went on a trip to the statue of Cristo Rei, which we hadn't seen from such a close distance so far. It´s even bigger than we have imagined ! Our tour guide wanted to entertain us with some talk about the geology but we could focus only on our swollen feet ! We were really glad to go back to our hosts and looking forward to having a cold shower. The views here in Almada are just amazing. I was asked if I prefer Almada at night or in the morning but I couldn't decide - atmosphere of the city is amazing and it doesn't matter if there is a sunlight or if there is a romantic night shimmer of the lights ...

The weather is really hot today. It´s a bit hard for us - the Polish people - to deal with it - we are rather used to clouds and the rain where the sun shows up occasionally.

The Portugese teachers took us an a short trip round the school. The students seemed really excited to meet people from Poland. Some boys kept staring, they are shy but really handsome! What we like here especially are fruit juices. The lessons here are a bit different than in Poland. Every class has fewer students than a Polish one. We are looking forward to going out in the evening.

Hi my name is Rui Louro,14 years old, and I´m one of the 3 stundents that so far have permission to receive foreigner students.
I live in Almada, my block of flats is near the river, and has a beatiful sight over Lisbon and over river tejo.
I don´t like shcool very much, but i´m pretty good at it.
My favourite food is pizza with a coka-cola, but i also like fondue with mineral water.
I have a fish, a exotic bird and 3 dogs, but the three dogs aren´t at home.
I like people that make me laugh, that are nice and that are honest to me. But if i don´t like certain people, believe me, i say it in he/she's face.
